Karnataka Roller Skating Association

Roller skating consists of three streams namely Roller Hockey, Artistic Skating and Speed Skating. In the last couple of decades "Speed skating"' has become a very popular skating event in Karnataka. Twenty years back it was a game mostly played in the city of Bangalore. Today roller skating is a popular sport in more than 15 districts of Karnataka and many schools in the state have included it in their curriculum.

Karnataka Roller Skating Association (KRSA) affiliated to Roller Skating Federation of India (RSFI) and recognized by Sports Authority of Karnataka was formed in the year 1976 by former R.C.C Director Sri. S. Narayana.

KRSA envisions creating best sport community through initiative and leadership and by establishing a highly supportive environment that will enhance the abilities of all kannadigas in their pursuit of excellence and their joy of effort in Roller Sport.

Mission

To provide programs and services that strengthens the Roller Sport from the grass-root level to high performance Skaters competing in the National and International championships.

Introduction – Roller Skating

Roller Skating is not merely a recreational activity but also a Competitive sport. It can be pursued from the tender age of four to anywhere above 60 plus, and enjoyed just the same, an ideal exercise for a fit body. Today the sport has gained popularity and has now been included for the first time in the Asian Games to be held in China in 2010.In India Roller Skating has gained recognition by the Olympic Association ant the Government of India. The games is included in school Games Nationals and as well as CSSE School Games Nationals.

Karnataka Roller Skating Association affiliate to Roller Skating Federation of India and recognized by sports Authority of Karnataka was formed in the year 1976 by former R.C.C. Director Sri. S. Narayana who served as the General Secretary till his demise 1994 worked hard to promote the game in the entire state. In the year 1996 as per the request of the President-Roller Skating Federation of India then Vice Chairman Sports Authority of Karnataka Shri. R. Rathan Singh took the reins of the Association as Chairman and guided and developed the game throughout Karnataka with the help of able and dedicated members such as K.B.Uthappa, P.K.Sudhindra, A.N.Annamalal, N.Sathyan,P.K. Bharath Kumar, K. J .Suvarma, Vishwanath Shetty, G. Bhaskar, B. V. Balakrishna, Umesh kumar, Coaches and Senior skaters such as S.N. Subbaraj, M. Harinath Mahesh Kumar, M. S. Poovaiah, Ramachandra Rao, Jeevan Chinnappa, Sanjay Patil, Srikantha Rao, Anthony, James, H. R. Ravish and Lokeshwariah, Dr. H. T. Sangllana IPS(Retd) took charge as the President since July 2005 and steering the association to new heights developing District associations and infrastructure facilities through our state in the year 2006 when the state celebrated its "Golden Jubilee Year" our Skaters added one more feather to its cap by becoming "Roller Skating over all champions of the country" as well as speed champions, in the 44th Nationals winning 35 Gold Medals,20 Silver Medals,9 Bronze Medals and 12 individual Champions Trophies. Karnataka Skaters have participated for the past 30 years continuously in the National championships conducted by Roller Skating Federation of India and won 8 times over all speed champions of the country trophy, and many Individual Champions Trophies every year. Karnataka Skaters have participated in many Asian/World Speed/Hockey championships/All India Open Championships/Zonal Championships, International /National including National Games and Dasara games won many Medals and bought laurels to the state and the country V Arsha Puranik from Mysore who won a Bronze Medal in the IX Asian at Taiwan was one of the first team member to get speed medals for the country.

Karnataka Roller Skating association with the able guidance of Sri R. Rathan Singh and Dr. Sangllana IPS Rets has organized and hoisted many National/All India/Zonal/State/District competitions and championships, Coaching camps and public awareness Rallies with the help of experienced dedicated International level/National level administrative and technical officials who are office bearers or the Associates.

KRSA officials are not only working for the Karnataka State, They are taking active part in Roller Skating Federation of India Governing Body also and striving hard to promote the game all over India.

    For the past four years Karnataka Chief Coach K. Srikanth Rao has been coaching & training the India team in all International competitions (Speed) & represented the country as India Coach.
